Dlask XB5 - does it really work?

Has anybody done any accuracy testing using the XB5? I’m particularly interested in whether or not it improves accuracy with the Dlask 12.5" bull barrel. I’m not into speculation - if you’ve got one and have compared it to just the thread protector (groups) then please chime in :)

My woman's rifle we are currently building is a 12" barrel, I been looking at the xb5 for two reasons mainly.
She had to have the short barrel so I like it in the aspect that it makes the barrel look 2" or so longer which I like, as well it's supposed to project most the noise forward is what I keep hearing. Which of that is true I would much much rather order the xb5 rather than some other goofy looking flash hider or likewise. And if it does help with grouping, even better.

I've tested many compensator's before and after, including the XB5... I can detect no difference before and after... I suspect that the lowest common denominators are the shooter and the ammo... BUT, it certainly does not hurt accuracy, it looks good and it protects the crown... there are legitimate reasons to use compensators... in speed shooting, even with rimfire, there is slight muzzle movement, and compensators do help... the XB5 and other "forward-blow" type compensators keep the gases moving forward and do not increase the noise realized by the shooter.

Great, thanks hoytcanon. I figured it would not make any significant difference to one’s groups before and after.

Say it aint soooo!
With all that you spent on dlask stuff. An honest reply saying it doesnt do much is shocking.
Simply sounds like money sitting at the end of the barrel.

i have never been disillusioned enough to think that any of the comps i put on my 22's actually do anything.
i put them on strictly out of a aesthetics standpoint.

i do run a Dlask XB on my big build.
im kinda wanting to go and do a little test with it on and off now....

Your fascination with me and your Dlask vendetta is getting old... and it is as irrational as ever.

I wasn't talking about "Dlask stuff" I was talking about compensators on .22 LR rimfires... I have used and tested Schuler, Vais, Tac Sol, Allchin, Volquartsen, Tactical Innovations and Dlask... and used them on dozens of builds. I've spent a lot of money everywhere and have no reason not to "tell the truth" about any product... from ANY company.

My experience with my Dlask custom rifle and the XB5 is that it only changed the point of impact in my testing. The XB5 moved the point of impact a tad lower but all my groups of 10 were one, pea sized holes if I did my job.It also moves the noise forward so you can shoot with-out ear muffs outdoors.Hand tighten only (excessive torque will mess up accuracy) and it looks cool.I'm not endorsing shooting with-out hearing protection (I'm half deaf anyways)but there is only a snap out the front using target grade .22 ammo.Would I buy one again..sure..looks are one thing in the whole package of making a custom gun. This gun is one of the most comfortable (Boyd's stock),easy shooting, reliable and accurate firearms I own and I'm glad I had it made by Dlask.

l_a has long since proven himself to be many things: obnoxious, ignorant, hypocritical, etc. Basically anything he says ought to be laughed at.

had a chance to go test this today.
didnt notice any difference between having it on and off the gun.
with it on on had a 10 shot group of 1.434" and with it off group 1.132"
im sure if you took off that one flyer off the 'on' group it would make it exactly the same.
but looking at the pictures it looks to me like with the comp on the grouping is better.
might just be my mind playing tricks though.

was shooting at 25m (82ft) with Blazer FMJ with a custom made Dlask rig (on far left)

put the comp back on and did a couple 3 shot groups.
1- 0.466
2- 0.362

then back to some larger 5-7 shot groups
1- 0.963
2- 1.532

I have one on my build as well, along with one of his 11.5" bull barrels. Only difference I notice is in the noise of the shot is directed more forward so there is a noticeable difference while shooting the gun or standing off to the side with it on and with it off.

I found this effect as well.

Particularly beneficial when shooting shorter barreled guns as the report can be rather obnoxious when you forget to put on the hearing protection.

Good morning sir, I was debating getting this Dlask XB5 comp for my Winchester Xpert 17 WSM 16.5" strictly for sound "reduction" and crown protection.

With regard to your comment about hand tightening... Is that really all I need to do? Would you recommend blue loctite or a crush washer, or at least a rubber O ring? Not sure if hand tightening will be fine considering the much higher pressure of 17wsm VS 22lr... Any response would be appreciated, thanks!
