Hey Guys,
Im currently saving for a Keltec RFB and wanted to put a DMR style scope on it. Im in the saving process, so there is plenty of time to make up my mind, but I always think 3 steps ahead. My first option was a Leupold Mark 4, but after seeing the new compact Mark 8, I had to have one, until i saw the price :(. So what I am mainly looking for is a rugged, dependable DMR scope (preferably lighter and compact) for <1500, but preferred under. Ideally the reticle would be a mildot or horus, illuminated reticle would be a bonus and would like something with a lifetime warranty, because if im putting that kind of cash down, I want it to last for a long, long time. I am still interested in the Mark 4, but would grab something better if there is something available in that price range or lower. Thanks in advance for your help :).

At that price point you're probably looking at a 3.5-10x Mark 4 or a 3.5-15x NXS. I have both and they're both excellent scopes. The only downside to the NXS is the fact that it has no option for a smaller objective - either 50mm or 56mm. My Mark 4 has a 40mm and, for the work it does on my SAN Flat Top, that's perfect. The 50mm would probably be too high...and the 40mm is already plenty high enough!

Each has their own pros and cons.

Leupold Pros: Smaller objective
Leupold Cons: Illumination not standard, mismatched reticle/turret (Mil reticle MOA turret)

Nightforce Pros: Illumination standard, matched reticle/turret (MIL/MIL, MOA/MOA), lower profile turrets, double-adjustment per revolution, zero stop, lots of availablr reticle choices
Nightforce Cons: Large objective, more expensive

S&B 1-8 is the true optic that you want although if you were on a budget I would look at the Ziess or NF line up.

I looked at the Zeiss Conquest mildot and it looks pretty good, Anyone have any experience with that one. Also the Nightforce looks pretty good, but i see that there are three versions (zero stop, high velocity, low velocity) what are these differences?

I'd kick it old school with a standard mildot reticle in the NXS if you're a MIL guy. I'm currently trying to retrain my brain to think in cm/m/mil but it's a stubborn bugger of a thing.:D

My Mark 4 has a TMR reticle that I quite like but it would be better if the adjustments for it were in MIL as well.

I like the mildot personally. That NF 2.5-10 looks pretty good now its a three way competition between:

1. Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40mm
2. NF 2.5-10x32mm
3. Zeiss conquest 4.5-14x44mm

So far the reviews for each have been pretty good with the zeiss being the cheapest and the NF and leupold around the same price (a couple of hundred more). Which would you guys recommend?

Sightron SIII1-7x20 w/ lit reticle.

This fullfils optics needs from 5ft to 700yds (can see much further of course, but reticle gets a bit coarse for Fig11 targets).

And YES, I do mean 5ft

For the money, it is an amazing piece of glass.

The Nightforce mildot is a different breed of cat than a standard It is a hollow dot with a smaller dot inside. Makes shooting gophers much easier, especially if you're going to top out at 10x. That'd be the way I'd go though I'd likely cheat for more power and go 15x.
