DNT HYDRA Thermal 3-in1 Scopes AVAILABLE NOW - ONE OF EACH ONLY!!!

Is the QD mount required if you're planning to scan with the optic not muzzle-sweeping the area, then mount to take the shot?
Pretty much yes - otherwise you’d need to have an allen-key with you to attach the mount. DNT are working on a QD mount - hopefully I’ll have news on that mount fairly soon.

If you plan to mount and unmount the unit then you'd need a QD mount.

It's somewhat disappointing that a unit advertised as multi-use doesn't come with a QD mount.

I was considering an HS325 in March but if there is the possibility of a QD mount in the near future, I would hold off till that came to fruition. I would like to be able to use the thing on multiple different platforms.

Actually it’s pretty common - even a $6000 EAW 3-in-1 thermal unit has a QD mount as an optional accessory.

Why add it in the box so everyone has to pay for it, if only some users need/want a QD mount.

Rather make it an accessory for those that want or need it.

And once DNT release their QD mount, it too will be an accessory and not an included mount. So you might as well get a unit ordered and then get a QD mount. I suspect their QD mount is still a few months away anyway. They couldn’t commit to a timeline when I discussed it with them at Shot Show.

How does the Hydra behave when used as a clip on - presumably the display changes to 1x? Would this not also mean that the HS635 is the best option for clip on use since the base magnification is closest to 1? Please confirm my understanding- but wouldn’t a base magnification of 1.5 mean only 2/3 of the sensor data is visible at 1x? Similarly, a base magnification of 3x means only 1/3 is available at 1x?

Also. I can order the Tier-One QD mounts - but they are

Because we've not had any of these in Canada, it's hard for me to comment as I've not used it as a clip-on. Your best option is to join the DNT Optics USA User group on Facebook, and ask your questions there as they have employees at DNT on that page that actually use the product daily, and can answer all your questions pretty easily. Search on Facebook for this group: DNT Optics USA Info/User Group

You can also join this one and ask: DNT Zulus and ThermNight Night Vision User Group

Sorry I don't have more definitive info.

Thanks. I’ll have a look.

Has anyone tried to use a Hydra as a clip-on?

I kinda tried it with an Sig Romeo7 and really didn't work well at all. Kind like peering down the bottom of a cola bottle.
