Do AR specific multi-tools work? Is there one that's alot better then others?

I bought an AIM brand, it was a POS, it was painted with a powder coating which was put on to thick and all the sizes were way out of tolerance

I ordered this wrench and it also has a thick powder coated finish. I tried it on the flash hider and one of the two slots is just a little too small and the other is almost too big but might work. Is the slot that's almost too big designed to be that way or is that actually for the buttstock tube?

I bought one from Marstar and it has worked pretty well. I have only done one build with it, but has held up fine.

I'm officially disappointed with this wrench. The coating they applied to it makes it basically useless. I do not recommend it. The model number on Fabsports' website is NCS-TARW.

I got the DPMS one and it works fine for me, except I did have to buy a seperate tool for the castle nut.

Actually, the castle nut is the only thing mine can manipulate properly.

Ealier DPMS wrenches work fine. Brownells used to stock them.

I notice the recent DPMS wrenches Brownells sold did not have the castle nut pin.

Weird, I have the DPMS wrench and it works well for everything.

It is interesting, FAB Sports and Marstar both carry the same NC Star AR Tool (NCS-TARW), and others reported the tool works, but your tool is not.

I'm sure it would work fine if it didn't have the thick coating on it. I guess I could grind it off and it would probably work. The toughest spot to get the coating off would probably be the barrel nut section. I took a few pulls on a barrel nut and after it slipped off a few times I could see the coating starting to come off onto the nut. The flash hider wrench doesn't even fit. It's just not possible to get it onto a flash hider. It is clear that the wrench was designed to work without the coating and then they added it which makes for a very durable paperweight.
