I was wondering, when one puts the dies in a loader, do they need to be adjusted to work right, or are they factory adjusted already?

That piece of paper in the die box is called instructions.
If you dont have any of those try reading the front section of just about any reloading manual out there.

Either will explain what you need to know about setting your dies, in your press to maximize the brass life for brass fired in your firearm.

The only exception I know of is the Dillon Square Deal model which is supposed to be all configured and adjusted, but it also uses non-standard dies. Supposed to be a great machine for pistol calibers.

Adjusting dies isn't difficult but it is fiddly or at least I find it is.

Straight wall size dies can be screwed in and used as- is. For bottleneck cases, the size /deprime die should be adjusted if you want maximum case life. Most reloading manuals describe how to do it. If full length resizing, the shoulder of a bottle neck case should be moved back one or two thousandths, no more. Of course bullet seating dies need to ba adjusted for each bullet style.

 Sorry to put this so bluntly but if you haven't RTFM then you have no business even attempting to re-load. Buy a couple of decent reloading manuals and read through the wealth of information presented. Go online and download the owners manual for the press you have or are looking to buy and read it too.

rick 357 hit it on the nose TGC. You're dealing with things that go bang. Don't put the test before the lesson. "ABC's of Reloading" is available at Amazon.ca for about 20 bucks. Its a good investment and a great start.
