Do everybody else's FAB handguards line up fine?

Just throwing on the FAB handguards here, and I notice that the tabs on the bottom of the upper handguard piece are not lined up with the spaces on the top of the lower.

If I place them so the pin on the upper lines up with the hole, there is no way they will line up - they are about a quarter inch too far back.

Looking at them closely for the first time, I notice the upper guard is labelled "SAU 58" and the lower is marked "SAD-58."

Is this a familiar problem to anyone? Or do I send these back to the retailer?
 
I had the same problem but my upper gaurd was about 1/8" to far back. Tried refitting the guards but it wouldn't line up so I just filed the tabs on the upper gaurd off a little at a time until the fit was tight. The lable on the gaurds are correct.
 
If you clipped yours together off the rifle, would they have been noticeably offset from each other?

Mine are substantially offset, just wondering if this is normal.

If everybody's are offset, I'll file mine down, I guess...but that is pretty strange. I can't think of any reason to manufacture stuff that does not work when purchased as a pair.
 
I put the top one on backwards! I did still need to file it, but I only had to take about 1/32 off the tabs.

When I put the top guard on the metal cover assembly, I somehow turned it around in my hand before twisting it in to the cover slots.

Since the rifle then could not be assembled, I was looking at the parts separately and didn't notice the vents facing two different directions.

Then, after I posted about the whole "why would you make something as a pair if it didn't fit together" it popped in to my head. I realized I must have put the top FAB handguard into the cover assembly backwards somehow, and just assumed it only fit one way. But in fact it fits both ways fine...until you go to assemble the thing!

Duh...

Anyway now that the defective part has been fixed (me) everything is together and looks good.

It's sure a light weight little thing! I am used to battle rifles now I guess.

The FAB handguards are holding up an Eotech 511...I will see how that does tomorrow. Also, the FAB ergo grip is a HUGE improvement over the factory grip which would probably fit a six year old girl.

The Eotech is nice but will definitely need the raised M4 stock to work best. Overall I am quite pleased with the thing. I have about 6000 rounds here for it...I will burn a few hundred tomorrow I guess.

Really looking forward to the new Rauch Tactical adapter. As I said in another thread, that adapter was part of what sold me on this rifle in the first place. I don't like the factory buttstock much at all - too low. The adapter that puts it in line with the bore is going to go on this rifle the minute it shows up, guaranteed.

Im digging mine...i just attched the pistol grip with the recomended 25mm m6 bolt...snugger up and im off in the next few minutes back to the range...better bring my " This firearm is not made by satan " pamphlets....and some spare ammo to let curious try her out. I can uasally get them from dirty looks and whispering ...to WAhoooo! where can i get one of these! in about 5 minutes :> Ill post some pics tonight of my project.

Just a quick question for you on your upper hand gaurd , did you have metal tabs, or a retainer spring holding the upper gaurd to the tube? If you had tabs how did they fair?
 
I had the tabs...they seemed okay after the bending.

Of course when I took it to the range yesterday I got hit hard by the gremlin, but so far I can't replicate it at home. I will run a few hundred more rounds through it this weekend and see how it does. It got really screwy after about 100 rounds, though.

Also the FAB grip came loose around the same time, which I guess could have contributed. I put it back on when I got home, tighter and with blue loctite...see if it holds up this time.
 
I had the same issue. I sanded mine down slowly and continuously checked clearance until it just barely fit. Now it's on there tight and snug.

I had the same problem at first, but a nail file was sitting next to me and in a couple minutes I had mine filed down just enough that it fit in super snug. No play at all in it. Tbh, I think its better that it needs a bit of filing because it means you get it tight every time, rather than some loose fitting plastic leading to a floppy upper guard.
