do Hornady bullets have inclosed base?

I'm not 100% certain, but it may depend on the type of bullet. Generally speaking JHP and JSP will have an enclosed base. I havn't looked at FMJ pistol bullets yet, however several rifle FMJ bullets I've seen had an open base.

I have a 300grn Hornady xtp in fron of me. It is copper jacketed with copper base. The only lead is the exposed hollow point!

Why do you ask?

I ordered some .44mag HP/XTP bullets with my press....I'm just getting into reloading and I want the least lead exposure possible... PLUS I like my guns clean  and the enclosed base bullets do make a difference.

You will get more lead exposure from the primers when you shoot, than from an exposed bullet base.
