Do I need a gun club membership?

"...No! Not required by law...........but the CFO has made "policy"..." Sort of misinformation. Not wrong, but not right either. The Social F**ks gave the administration of the FA to the Provinces. So now the law is applied differently in every Province. Civil servants making law by regulation.
It's policy in most Provinces that you belong to a club in order to own a restricted firearm(no law says that). Their reasoning is that since you cannot shoot a restricted firearm anywhere but on a range and there are no public ranges, you must belong to a club.

They wont issue until you send them a copy of your membership. I did Silvercore, on line, 30$ they email you the letter you need for att, print and fax it in with your app, LTATT in about a week.

you can cause a fuss and they will issue it without one. asking them to give you the policy in writing that says you need a gun club membership to get an ATT would be a good way to get them to give you one without it, they hate putting stuff in writing that they are just making up.

I find it easier to just buy a membership, you will want one to shoot your guns anyways.

I called in and the person said I need one so I just joined Silvercore. The help desk told me it will also lower the time for approval of my gun purchase.

Isn't that what I said? In-house policy making to impose their will on gun owners. No actual law stating one must have a gun club/range membership.

There is a public range in the Lower Mainland of BC. The OP shouldn't need a gun club/range membership in that case. He can just purchase a "day card".

Law or no law your going to have a tough time with out a range membership. I found a nice range in the South Okanagan for $80.00 a year. I met some really nice people to shoot with and I'm even thinking about getting into some trap shooting. Joining a range in not the worst thing you'll ever do in life you might even like it.

Just an update since someone might find this useful.

A short preface: I purchased a pistol through a private sale without my LTATT.

When I called in on Monday in to complete the transfer, I said no gun club to the operator. After calling in to confirm on Tuesday, I joined Silvercore and sent my letter in same day. I called again today (Friday) to ask about my LTATT and they already mailed it out.
