Do I need to lap new rings if they look OK?

I have some Burris Zee QD rings coming this week. I will be using them to mount a Leopold FXII onto an XS Scount mount.

I would like to keep the new FXII free of ring marks. If the rings look like they are in good contact with the scope, do I still have to lap them?

I don't have any gear for doing this. Can I lap rings with a little Flitz? Where do you get the bars for doing this?

For bars, what I did was go through a metal supply place with my calipers. Nominal 1" steel shafting is over-sized, but 1" stainless is turned to exactly one inch. They don't give it away. The 30 mm proved to be a little harder, because although that metric size exists, I couldn't find any. That left me buying drill-rod and getting it turned down. That stuff only comes in 3 or 4 foot lengths and nobody wants to cut it.
My gunsmith buddy turned it down to fit, and traded for the rest of the bar. By the time all was said and done, it might have been cheaper to order a lapping kit from Brownells.
For lapping compound I use 360 grit valve lapping compound.
