I am going to start a build in the next week or two and I am wondering if when I put the barrel on I need to torque it. I have seen some do and some don't. Just looking for some advice. Thx

30 - 32 ft lb is the minmum - use more if you need to move the notch to the next spot for gas tube to align - but not less.

35 ft lb as a minmum is a bit high based on my experience.

Some more some less. 'Generally' - hand tighten, then tighten with the wrench to the next alignment hole that lines up the gas tube. It is important to index the gas block and tube alignment so the end of the gas tube does not bind or interfer with the bolt.

Also, tighten it, then loosen it, tighten it, then loosen it, then tighten it a 3rd time to torque. This ensures that the barrel extention is seated fully in the reciever!

If the parts are within tolerances there will be only one notch in the barrel nut that will allow the gas tube to line up. The previous one will leave the barrel ridiculously loose while the next will make it impossibly tight. Lining up that one notch is your priority, torque is secondary, that is why the permissible torque range is so broad.

Hand tight so the nut holes line up with the gas tube. It really doesn't need much pressure. I put high temperature "never- seez" on the threads as well(which helps get it tight enough and come off in the future). Sometimes the torque wrench will "click" in after the holes don't line up. The barrel nut can get damaged or stripped if you try for the extra turn if you have a cheap barrel wrench...or a pipe wrench?

I have done a few recent DD, CMT and LMT receivers - they were all bang on at around 32 ft.lb range, aligned.

Don't buy ####ty receiver.....
