At the range today I saw two sks's side by side and one had a barrel at least 2" shorter than it's neighbour. It looked like it was a typical Norinco sks with the bayonet mount, just a shorter distance between the gas port and the muzzle. Does Norinco make two different barrel lengths?

Thanks
Kevin

Most Sks's come with a 20.25" barrel. Lever (for one) was importing the newer made models that weren't even marked Norinco, sporting an 18.5" bbl.. This was probably done to save money and still comply with the Canadian non restricted bbl length law. The bayos don't fit the groove. Handguard length was the same(not including the D model which is shorter from the front sight block to the op rod housing)They seem to shoot the same, but in essence they are not the original design

Shorter SKS's

Norinco produced a shorter sks, paratrooper model. This was for commercial sale I believe. I don't think Norico produced for the military. I could be wrong though!
