I don't own any stainless barreled guns. Has anyone ever noticed if they spook game or make you more noticable? I understand that they have a mat finish, but still they sure catch my eye in the store gun racks! I'm especially interested in hearing about deer at woods ranges.

Well, in Ontario if they can't see the blaze orange vest, i doubt the thin stainless barrel will make that much difference.

I have had elk right on top of me...no problems.....all my rifles are stainless synthetic or Greywolf's Sako's or Tikka laminate T3's. Took a cow elk @ 8 steps.

Actualy, according to experts, deer sight sensitivity on red and brown colours is the lowest. Bright polished stainless steel in bright sunshine acts like mirror, and will scare them off very fast. If you have matt finished SS rifle, and keep yourself to the shadows, then it is less visible to the deer, but still more visible than mat blue one. My 2cWell, in Ontario if they can't see the blaze orange vest, i doubt the thin stainless barrel will make that much difference.
I predator hunt primarily with my stainless rifle, never had an issue with it. I did one day set off to stand up my decoy and when I turned to head back I caught a huge flash off of my bolt knob, it really changed the way at the shine on a rifle. It is fixed of course, but it was bright!

Read an summation a few yrs ago from a university in the states, unfortunately I don't remember where I saw it, but it was a study, concerning the rods etc. in various ungulate's eyes.(technical stuff was way more involved than I cared to be bothered with)
It was mainly concerned with ungulates colour perception. Two things I remember were: deer see blaze orange as brown, as they do trees, and, deer see blue(bluejeans) as we see neon pink.
Don't remember where I saw it, I suspect it came from LSU.
I've wondered about that with the silver barrels as well. If you're considering one and worried about it, I'd bet Louisana State University was the one that did the research.

I haven't had any problems when using my stainless Sako...
I don't have any guns that are stainless steel and I wouldn't care to take one hunting, but I am pretty sure I spook game in lots of ways long before they would get a chance to see if my gun is blued, black, or shiny.
