Do standard 22"-24" Rem 700 barrels drop into Model Sevens?

Thinking about a change but not sure. Perhaps a 22-24" standard contour on that ultra short action would be a neat combo...

So do 700 barrels just screw in to Model Sevens?

Yes, but you'll have to perform all the normal headspace checks, etc. It kind of defeats the purpose of the lightweight M7 action. You may have to add weight into the butt of the stock, it'll feel pretty unbalanced,IMO.

Yes...

I had a 24" "take off" regular sporter weight .223 Rem barrel from a Rem 700 installed on my Model 7. It originally had the short 18 1/2" pencil barrel barrel on it:

Groups well with econo Winchester whitebox 45 gr hp's:

That's an interesting rifle and I really do like the way it looks. I wonder if this is the answer to the recoil. Perhaps a 7mm-08 barrel on the thing would work wonders. Still get a sweet little ultra short action with less recoil and muzzle blast.

How much does the gun weigh with the full length barrel? What's the balance like off-hand?

Well, I like a bit of a muzzle-heavy feel. Holds steady. Hopefully it wouldn't be too drastic.
