Do the new Winchester Model 70 stocks fit the old Classic models?

I have a Classic in .375 H&H and wonder if the new Winchester stocks will fit with nothing but a floorplate change.

Did they change any other dimensions eg barrel/shank or receiver?

The early classics had the traditional 2 pc floorplate/trigger guard assembly and the later ones had a one piece tg/fp.
I converted an early sporter (classic) stock to the one piece set up it was a bit of a pain but not too much work.
The shank on my 375 was about the same as the replacement stock and I didn't have to remove much wood
in the forearm, inletting the bm was the hardest part.
Converting a new stock to the two piece deal might be easier
Even easier than that is getting PTG Obendorf bottom metal for a M70.
Chuck Nelson knows more about that.

Thanks. I'm looking at going with the Williams bottom metal that drops into an FN long action model 70, so maybe a factory Safari stock would fit the rest fine. Don't know if the barrel is the same contour in the Classic and the FN safari though.

If its the same safari stock they used on the New Haven guns I found the comb of the stock to be ridiculously high
for using the irons.
IMHO a sporter or featherweight stock with crossbolts is better.
If your current rifle has the one piece bm I would expect the williams piece to fit like a saddle on a sow.

Experiment!

Well, I took the stock off my FN Safari Express .375 and put the Classic Stainless .375 barreled action in it with Williams one piece bottom metal.

Action fits OK but I think the glue bedding gets in the way a little bit:

Barrel is pushed up by the glue a little (the Classic doesn't have a forward recoil lug on the barrel:

Barrel channel OK at forend:

The shank is slightly different on the newer ones:

Williams one piece bottom metal fits the FN stock well:
