do we really need hide horse for both of holster and pouches?

Horse hide never collapses and has the most durability. But Do we really need that for IDPA/IPSC or Daily carry since horse hide costs more money? thanks.
 
Whoever told you that you need it for IDPA or IPSC is full of it.

Use what works, which is damn near anything; cloth, leather, plastic. "Run what ya brung" is never bad advice to start.
 
Some of the best holsters available are in plain cowhide.

I've had horsehide pouches that eventually went soft.
In comparison My Alessi CQC/S...I have two are still tough and rigid and in plain black cowhide.
