I've had a WTB ad on the EE for a few weeks now and bump it once a week. The items that I've been looking for have come up a couple times now but by the time I see them they have sold and usually only miss out on them by a few hours at the most. Does anyone check WTB ads or are they a waste of time to put up?

They work, but not as effectively as you actively searching for the items. I generally check the WTB adds before posting. If I can find a buyer before placing the add all the better.

Yup they work ive posted a few wtb's and the next morning i had some replies waiting, just dont forget to take your ad down when finished

Hmmm, I've missed out on some hard to find items because no one bothered to check WTB ads, just kinda sucks. I don't have the time in a day to check every half hour to see whats coming up and that seems to be the only way to beat anyone to it.

Good way to find hard to find firearms or parts, but be prepared to pay the going rate, you ussually won't get a screaming deal, but you will be happy to find that gun you have been searching for for 10 or 20 years. I love CGN ,one of the best things to help build my SmIth and Wesson Collection! Although it is hard to get a true S&W guy to sell his older stuff.
Here a few things I have found with WTB adds:
BRNO 603 358 Norma Mag
H&K 631 in 223 non restricted
S&W model of 1917 45acp
S&W MKII HE 455, a bunch of them!
BRNO 602 Ziess mount

Good luck Dale Z!

I run an ad now and then looking for old 1911 pistols and 1911 parts. I don't mind paying a fair price and probably pay more than some of the good deals that come along and are gone in a minute. It seems that some people sit on the EE all day long clicking refresh every minute or two.

WTB worked great for me. I needed some parts and a magazine and had both offered to me within a few days ...

I think the "long term" WTB's are people that are picky about what they want (and there is nothing wrong with that), need a specific hard to find part, or want to pay a lot less than most are offering it at and are hoping for a deal.

I've also sold a few things that I saw in WTB's ... I have a few guns that are "surplus" to my needs and rather than actively selling them, I will contact the CGN'er if I happen to see a WTB with what I have listed. In a wierd way I feel better knowing I sold something to someone that wanted it instead of selling to someone that bought it only becuase it was a good deal.

WTB sure worked for me. I made a deal on a BRNO target rifle. I had a few whacko offers, but within a day I had the perfect gun at the perfect price.

My observations. When you post a wtb ad often times the seller will list the item. That way they know they have a buyer all ready, and they price it at the going rate. If you jump on it you are in luck. If not the next guy gets it and you are still looking. You need to keep an eye on the classifieds. I have had 80% success with my wtb ads and have even struck gold a time or two. Keep at it, they work, and often work very well.

It's just frustrating to see the item that I want and such a hard to come by item come on the EE and sell right away with no response to my WTB ad first.

True but it's a free market and guys have no obligation to let you know. You really have to stay on top of it yourself if you don't want to miss out. Sucks but it's the way it is.

yup...they work great. I've found many items that way.
Most time, a seller hadn't considered selling a particular item, but when they see the "WTB", they get triggered into saying "yeah, I could part with that".

WTB and WTT work well for me. Either I post the ad, or I reply to them. Have had great experience on the EE but you do have to watch/log in very often if seriously looking for stuff.

There is no free lunch, you gotta work to get what you want.

Thats what I mean, for the amount of work just searching the WTS ads is going to be the same as posting a WTB ad.

This just came up in the milsurp forum as well.

They aren't very effective with hard to find and desirable items, but you never know and you could get lucky. I have gotten lucky a couple times finding items I may have not otherwise found.

I will keep using them on occasion.

I've never had any luck with WTB adds. I've posted many in the past, and have a couple of 'em currently up right now...again, no luck. Maybe the stuff I'm looking for is a bit more difficult to come across, but in however many BTTs I've submitted, not one single reply has ever come my way with some good news.

On the other hand, I do check WTB adds. If I can help someone out, I'd rather contact them first before actually listing the item as a WTS on the EE.
