do you clean your SKS stocks?

for all the Russian SKS's i have, beside the usual handling marks, they all have shellac peeled off, and there appears to be some kind of 'wax' on them, such that they give a dull appearance.

i am not looking to re-finish them, as i want to keep them as original as i can.

any idea?

Major go by Reliable and ask Shyne for his waxalyne product that he sells. Wipe the surface clean of any debris. Then after allowing it to dry apply this several time's to the effected area that you would like to restore the glossy shine back to. Unfortunatly the only way to make it 100% is to strip and reaply another shellac based product. That is why if I ever find a prestine SKS I will be refinishing it with tung oil instead of the tradional shellac coat. On a side note if you ever do re-shellac this stock check out a product called Varithane and use the Extior Hi-Gloss. It's as tough as dimonds and will make your stock turn solid as a rock.
