Do you criticise other hunters?

I had a good friend relate a conversation he had with another friend (Idiot) of his a couple of weeks ago.
The conversation went something like this,
My friend "Did you hear about the big buck that Big Reds gang shot last year? Tony's wife shot a huge ten point with a 24" inside spread!"
Other Guy (Idiot), "Yeah well they were just lucky, that gang shoots anything that moves!"
My friend to his credit gave this idiot a well deserved tune-up about talking trash and related the story to me out of respect.
Now just to qualify, the Idiot that made the smart ass comment is involved with the industry at the commercial level and many here would know the name and group of individuals he is involved with. We see each other often and we both deal with many of the same people in the industry. He quite obviously has never made a comment like this to my face, but I know his type and I would bet dollars to donuts that he is flapping this nonsense to others as well!
Here is the crux of it... the idiot in question and his family and friends are young hunters that fancy themselves "Trophy Hunters"! They measure themselves by big racks only and look down on meat hunters or management hunters as less worthy than themselves.
They have no children or women hunting in their small group and they sign up vast chunks of property and shoot only big bucks. They give no thought to management or the landowners desires to control population.:bsFlag:
Whereas our group hunts and manages large properties for all wildlife and as desired by the landowners.
We do shoot Does and Fawns depending on the area and many other factors. The seasoned Hunters in our group have shot many Trophy Whitetail but are very selective about when and where they fill a tag. More often than not we will let the deer walk and put a youngster or new hunter in a position to shoot his first deer.
This year we are adding a 12 year old Girl an 18 year old Woman and a 13 year old Boy to our group. The Women and Children under 18 will out number the Adult Men this season!
Don't get the wrong idea... I am not putting the Idiots down for being Trophy Hunters... I went through that phase many years ago and there is nothing wrong with it... it is just a personal choice!
I am just slamming them for being critical of another valid type of hunting and other hunters!

I apologize for the long post... but I am venting.

My point is this is far too common an occurance in our sport! Why do some of us feel the need to criticise other hunters... and I am not talking about ethics here! I am talking about being critical of other types of hunting, or just plain bull#### due to jealousy.:puke:
What should I do about the idiot in question... I should probably ignore it... whatya think?

I try not to badmouth anybody, but as we are all human this is easier said than done. All we can do is watch ourselves and others around us to stop this from happening.

I guess it's kinda like someone posting wise arse comments along with a picture of a fictional super hero when a story gets told about a remarkable shot.

Glasss houses my friend, glass houses.

I try not to look at others in a negative way, but when someone tells me they only shoot big bucks and someone who shoots a doe is not a hunter, etc I tend to lose my mind!
For the record, I have shot some very big bears , deer and moose in 40 years of hunting, but that is not and never has been the main reason I hunt.

Game management is a lot more than that.
A few years back I showed some photos to the boyz at work.
They were from the collection of one of the World's foremost deer hunters, (he had sent them to me after I bought a shotgun from him for my son).

Not all "book " animals , but a few were.

One idjit made the comment of" ya, how many did he shoot and leave in the bush before he got that one?"

I got pissed and told him " Hey, Arsepick, not all hunters are like YOU!"
Shut him up pretty quick.

This is the internet... Captain Deadly is transparent in his method and is open to rebuttal! His criticism is confined to low percentage shots.... nothing to do with the topic at hand!

Why do you hate Captain Deadly are you jealous of him too.:p

No, I just find it ironic how you feel chastised from the comments another had made about your hunting style.
While you take every opportunity to vilify others.
I see no need, any which way to chastise anyone, like your momma probably told you.
"If you have nothing good to say, shut your bloody pie hole."

What are you exactly talking about Lefty???

I think you need to be more specific... if your gonna criticise then don't beat around the bush!

How exactly have I vilified other hunting styles?

What I can't understand is why there would be a cofuffle over one of your gang shooting a meat buck.:D :p

Big Red you have a good point I work for a hunting organization who is all about trophy hunting I personally am a meat hunter first and a trophy hunter second and one of our biggest problems in this industry is how we bicker amonst each other and don't support one another. We are constantly fighting amongst ourselves and this my freinds is how the anti's will win thier fights.

Yeah my point exactly...:D
Naw not really... I suppose it bothered me more because a Woman or Kid that shoots any deer, never mind a 140 class Whitetail should be congratulated not ridiculed.

Yeah your right and it is OK to be critical sometimes when it is constructive criticism.

Lefty is making the point that I criticise other hunters as well.. and he is right. But in my defense I criticise them for stupidity not style! And I do it in the open in the form of debate where everyone can offer his opinion and defend themselves.:slap:

Hunters are just like any other group of people.

They can run the gambit from jealous, backbiters, ignorant, wannabes, know-it-alls, rude, selfish, to sharing, kind, generous, selfless, teachers, ethical and so on.

Could be he got his info second hand and so did you and that your both could be wrong with you assumptions about the other. Maybe not.

.

Really try hard not to be vocally critical of other hunters ... but do have a hard time none the less, accepting poor ethics, bad form and those who might be described as "slob hunters" , i.e., no respect for the resource, game, land and/or other hunters.

One really shouldn't criticize anothers hunting style or shooting ability, his firearm, his dog, his wife, choice of vehicle - or drink of choice ! Gentlemen and Sportsmen ( and that certainly does not exclude ladies ! ) should learn
a little more quiet tolerance.

Those who like "see through mounts" however .... :slap:
