Do you have a big bore rifle (we will call it 375 H&H class and up. No 45/70's allowed):)

And..Have you shot any north american game with it ?(them?)

Shot an immature bull moose at 80yrds with a 375 H&H. Knocked it right off it's feet and it dropped right where it stood in the middle of the logging road. No second shot required. Quite impressive really.

I've had four 375H&Hs, and two 375/338s come and go over the last 15yrs.

I have used them a bit for deer hunting, but never did shoot any game with any of them. Hopefully this latest 375/338 that is on the way will change that.

I've got 2 375 H&H's, but never hunted with either of them.

In regards to the "no 45/70's allowed"...Why not? My bolt action 45/70 can easily be loaded to low end 458 Win mag specs and still not show any pressure signs. The recoil is extremely manageable, which is something that was a big surprise to me.

Are you INSANE???

You shoudl have done a change up, as clearly those cartridges are "unlucky" for you.

Maybe a 375 Ruger would have ben lucky for you?:)

I have a .375 H&H, shot a lot of paper so far, no luck for me in the Yukon with it as of yet, but a spring bear in the Manning area will happen. I also have a .444 Marlin that I purchased brand new last spring, took a bull elk with it this fall at 63 yds. That was probably one of the most memorable hunts and one of the most dramatic kills, and I've taken a lot of bull elks in my life time. :):) Just out of curiosity Gate, why don't you include the 45/70?, it's big bore.

Yea ...... my "lucky" guns are a .308 760/Carbine and a 257Roberts. ;)

I'll have to forasake both of them, prefering the 375 this year.

Maybe a 375 Ruger would have been lucky for you?:)
Maybe a 375 Ruger next time around. :D I'd like to find a 77 action with mag bolt face and make another 375/338.

I didn't want to include the 444/45/70 etc class of cartridges because they are so common.

This was because on another thread, people were talking about thier 416's 458's 460's and 577's. I was just wondering who uses them in North America.

Nothign against the 444's and 45/70's, it's just that I already know lots of people use them, so the question would be redundant.;)

Cool man....point taken. :)

I had an extra 300 mag Tikka laying around one year so I had a 458 Stainless King tube put on it with a Leo scout scope. I dreamed up a Stainless, laminate grey Scout rifle cause I wanted one....then Ruger came out with one the year after....
Thought I'd use it for Bears........

Only thing I actually ever shot with it was a nice Muley Buck !

3 Times.......:slap::redface:

I guess I should add....my answer is No, I sold it and no longer "have" a big bore........but should I ever win the Lotto and go to Africa that may change.

I intended to take a moose with my 378 last year, but didn't get drawn. In retrospect, I probably should have brought it along anyway and taken my deer with it, but didn't. Maybe this spring on bear. Have taken many gophers with the 378.

I also have a 458, but it's still a work in progress, and not quite ready to take hunting just yet.

I also acquired a 500 A-square a number of months back; just for ####s and giggles.

Lastly, I have a Buffalo Classic in 45-70 - now that it's easier to get brass in from the states I'll probably have it reamed out to 45-90/110/120
