Do you know how to? (SKS question)

Declan, do you mean the gas tube on top? If so, the little lever on the right side of the rifle, comes up, watch the angle change on the "retainer". You'll see it comes to a flat spot and that allows the rear of the tube to be lifted up and out...

Cheers
Jay

If you are wanting to remove the wood on itself, Yes you take out the pin by the rear of it. Sometimes they can be a pain to get in and out.

I am actually talking about the smaller of the two wooden parts that make up the furniture. I am going to put a different stock on it and therefore I have change the wooden hand guard also.

I just don't know how to get it out from inbetween the two metal edges that hold it in place.

Yes, Rotaxpower, that's what I meant. I've been trying to get the rear pin out with a punch and a hammer but it won't budge, so I was wondering if I was doing the right thing.

I belive, that the pin will only go out one way, I cant remember for sure. I know when I tool mine apart, it only took a little tape, I guess I was lucky!

Yeah, the pin in your piston guard will only go out one way. If your having difficulty getting it out, there are a couple things to consider. The first thing I would say is make sure you're using proper punches; they make all the difference. A technique I have found works really good for punching many pins from the SKS is to use an open phone book as a base to punch your pins on. The crevece in the middle of an open phone book seems like it was made just for SKS's.
