Do you need an export permit to bring Canadian made ammo back home from the USA?

If I knew the answer to that I would have bought a lot of this.

Looks like IVI sold off their surplus to Fiocchi who put a sticker on the can and shipped it to USA.

(Syracuse gun show, yesterday.)

I love how Canadian surplus ammo ends up South of our border instead of being sold to Canadian sport shooters...

What was the pricing for this ?

It is NOT surplus. Back in the '90's IVI produced a batch of 5.56mm that was rejected during acceptance testing by the Canadian Forces, due to the bullet jacket stripping off in the barrel. IVI was authorized to "dump"(export) this ammo out side of Canada. Unfortunately some of it made it back to Canada by BC Target shooters. Buyer Beware, this could be similar.

And back to the OP's question...
Export of ammunition from the US requires a licenced US exporter.

Every lot of ammunition destined for the Canadian Armed Forces, under goes a acceptance inspection. If it is found to be unacceptable for use by our soldiers IVI is given permission to "dump" it outside of our borders. There was an incident in the '90's, that doesn't mean that a 2016 production lot couldn't be/wasn't found acceptable for a variety of reasons.
