This topic results from the string Rinco 1911 prob and the following response: "Does your Norinco allready have the lowered and flared ejection port?" My response is my Ballester-Molina, a pistol that is very similar to a 1911, works great without a lowered and flared ejection port. I prefer the looks of a lowered and flared ejection port but I do not think they add to function. What is your take? Regards, Richard:D

No, you do not "need" a lowered and flared the ejection port. I have an old 1911 and it shoots "ball" ammo with no problem. Cases eject high and far. My other 1911,s all have lowered and flare ejection ports. I changed them so I could tune the ejection of the case to come out more to the side, hence the modifications. I also reload and shoot some light loads. If I forget to change the spring my light loads seem to just role out of the handgun . Without the larger ejection port I get jams. Also it aids in clearing jams, if they happen. I also think it adds to the look of the handgun.

I prefer the look without the flare..... but I understand the idea behind making the port larger.

A lowered and flared port might add to the function of the gun if the ejector or extractor are not working correctly.
