So I was explaining to my girlfriend about how I was getting the new scope for the Tavor, and why this should be an exciting thing, when she asked me:

"You've spent a lot of money on that rifle. Do you shoot it enough to make it worthwhile?"

And while I could have just reflexively said "Yes of course!" I stopped and thought about it.

Because some of my guns I haven't: I don't feel like I've shot my Fabarm shotgun enough, or that I shoot it well enough, to justify the money I put into it.

Because I've been shooting the Tavor for a year now, and I still keep changing stuff around to try new things on it. I finally feel like I'm settling down on it, and getting it to a point where I'm really happy with it as a rifle that I've set up for me.

I'm getting to the point where the money I spent on it was worth it, but thats after a year of tinkering.

To anyone else out there with a pricey black rifle: your converted NR ACR, your noveske, your LMT .308, I ask "Are they worth it yet?" At what point do you say: "Yes, I got my money's worth out of that gun."

I figured it would be easy to prove to the girlfriend that I shoot enough. And it was:

I didnt justify it whne I owned the pe90 classic green, but now that a new black special carbine is on its way I am going to.
Havent really shot my Rob Arms M96 very much either :(

Unfortunately not. I've got a ton of use out of my Fabarm from weekend trips to Mclean Creek and Waiparous, but I've only shot my my NEA twice and I prob haven't shot my handgun in 6 months. Getting to the range is really the issue, because of time and because its just not remotely as fun as shooting outdoors. I'm buying a NR rifle in the Spring (prob a Tavor, actually) so I'll likely end up using my restricteds even less at that point.

My guns were used so seldom that I've sold 5 handguns and 3 rifles worth more than $6500 in firearms over the last 4 years.
I only miss my S&W 686 6" 357 Magnum revolver :(

I'm very focused now:
  • a single precision centerfire rifle
  • a single accurate rimfire rifle
  • a single excellent black rifle
Life is to short to own unused or inaccurate guns,

Not trying to be an ass here - you eyes should been watching the targets while you are firing, instead of turning your head to the camera while you are squeezing multiple round. You have no idea where the bullets go - what if someone just pops out from nowhere in the bush and you hit him/her. This is like driving while texting when the head down.

Every single round needs to be 100% accountable and you have to know where they go. Just saying.

I don't even have a front sight for my AR yet, so no I don't shoot it enough. I just don't want to go buy a rail sight now, and then change the rail to use an Fish.

I knew someone was going to say that. And you're right. I reacted when I heard the first round's brass ping off my camera :(

They're going into a U shaped dirt berm approximately 10 yards in front of me.

This sums it up best for me. I feel bad for bfiles' M96 not getting enough love.

I wish I shot it a lot more but there's no need to justify ownership of any particular gun.

Being an AR owner the real issue is lack of ranges to use.

needs options for XCR owners: do you shoot it enough to justify your stock options in loctite?

feel free to send me that m96. if it's free, I can easily justify it's cost. ;)

It's sad to say, but when I bought my XCR, the NR status was worth the cost.

the 6.8 barrel? not so much.

I'm nowhere close, but what I'd really like to do is shoot enough to wear out a rifle. If I could hit the range enough, and shoot my rifles to the point where they were beyond their useful lives, that would make me happy. I want to wear our my AR through honest use.

Well it might even go back up for sale in the EE if I get enough balls to do it!!!!!!

Not sure of the count but i surely have in exces of 100 left, another 50- 60 will be sold... JP.

oh man, but I wouldnt be advertising that too much

I live 5 min away from a very nice 250m rifle range and pistol range, very laid back hardly ever anyone there on weekdays and on weekends you can always get a bench , i dont think i would own any restricted firearms if i was a hour or more from a range or lived in the big city and had to use one of those crowded circus of a range like POCO .. not worth the hassle i dont like pistols and ARs enough to deal with that. But i sure shoot the piss out of my Glock and AR and love it.

I personally think most fancy black gun owners don't. They semole can't afford the ammo or have the drive to shoot that much.

Greg

See that's what I think whenever I'm drooling over a buddies SR-25. I mean the gun is gorgeous, but I'd always thing "I could be doing so much more with this considering the money I spent"
