I am wanting to test a new round in my rifle. It will be at 50 & 100 yards and I want to see if it is accurate in my rifle. Tomorrow they are calling for 30km wind. Would it be better to do it on a calmer day?

If a rimfire, it will be fun:D , If you get the elevation dialed, then play with the windage, but plan on final adjustments on a calm day. Its a good idea to keep records of any changes(scope) and conditions(weather) no matter what .

that wind is what i shoot in about every day in SW alberta
Id shoot it up your bullets wont drift that much
youd still be able to kill gophers with that sight in job
also if your worried about wind get up early its usually calm in the mornings

Yes I do site in, but I definately prefer a calm day.

I do not test on a day where it is real windy out though. I like 5kmh or less for testing. Takes more humn error out of the equation.

If testing wait for a calmer day.

I have no coice aound here, and it's gusting pretty good right now. by the way, I got your PM. I'll see what we can set up.

Sounds good. Whenever you have an urge to go shooting and want a shadow.

Wind don't stop hunting like the rain don't stop the Army,It don't rain in the Army it rains on the Army! Set up in the wind, your elavation and windage will change on a calm day(but just the reverse would happen if you sighted in on a calm day)then hunted in the wind! Kentucky windage and hold over are your friends, learn them!

I tried to edit this post but could not,I bought a Woodmaster in .243 win !

It was pristeen so I bought it in spite of how bad they can be with worn out rails,I took it to the range (here in Oklahoma we have little or no choice about the wind)as we are the secound windiest city in the World(Chicago #1)! I walked it in with about eight rounds I gave up when I got bull at 100 yrds(pluse .243 here is about twice as expensive as .308win).

My daughter used it deer hunting, they never saw a deer but after the hunt the hunters tried shooting a plastic oil can at 100 yrds(she nailed it first shot) That leads me to think the 24 cal bucks the wind very good!

I prfer to zero any riflee when it is as calm as possible, but I train and practice constanly in the wind , rain, snow, etc.
The worse the coonditions are, the better I like it.
That way, when they arise in a match , thet don't bother me and I can shoot my normal mediocre scores with noo problem!:D
