Do you thing the RCMP would be this accommodating?

No they would not, because at least one was destroyed in Toronto when the registry came into being.

I kinda wish there was a way to get to the people who're handing in their guns before they get to the police.... in a better world an appraiser would answer the phone, give an estimate of value then if the gun was junk, pass it on to the police.

Well, at a couple of the turn-in events there would be crowds of people in the parking lots offering to buy whatever you're bringing in.

It's disgusting that pieces of history like this are being destroyed. How would they feel if people started destroying classic cars, or paintings? It's vandalism, plain and simple. At least keep the guns that are turned in, then auction them off or sell them for parts or something.

I had this overwhelming urge to go there and push him into something that hot and see if he liked it. . . almost shed a tear seeing the "coffin"

i would not even hand a junk gun in

If I recall correctly, there is a Durham Regional Police officer who is being investigated for exactly what some here are suggesting... While it's hard to see them destroyed, It's harder to say that a rifle is worth a man's job, credibility, and ability to put food on the table...
