Hi there,

Recently found a few boxes of 8mm mauser in a lgs and bought them out. When I got home I noticed they all has a strange heat treated look on the cases?

The privi stuff on the right compared to s&b on the left. Anyone know what's going on here? Are these rounds safe to shoot?

It's good. It's the annealing process that does that. All of my new unloaded prvi cases look like that too

Hi,

As stated by several posts above, the discoloration on the brass shows it has been annealed, which is a good thing. In South Africa we called this "Case Iris" or "Cartridge Iris". I have never heard this term used here in Canada. Perhaps Green Skull can give us the local term for this discoloration of annealed brass.

Thanks! I am headed out tomorrow to see how it shoots compared to my s&b ammo. It is lighter and I am hoping it doesn't shoot even higher above the post than the 198gr stuff I have now.
