Does a list of guns that are pre '98 that do not need license or registration exist?

Perhaps posting the same question in the Antiques section might actually get you the answer you are looking for...there are some great guys on this web board that know more about antiques and their legitimacy than Liberals know about corruption ;)

:D

it would be almost impossible to list all the guns that may qualify as antique. Many guns were made pre and post 1898 so only some versions of a particular gun in certain calibres may be antique. best thing to do is read the criminal code definition of antique firearm, then read the antique firearms regulations. That will be the only way to determine if a given gun is or isn't an antique. Probably not what you want to hear but I hope it helps.

For american guns you can refer to Flaydermann's Guide to Antique gun prices for dates of production. For european guns you would have to refer to a number of books on the history of single shot rifles, of handguns, and of guns of various countries. If you just want a gun that you don't have to register, that is a slow and expensive process to collect them. If you are into collecting, they are books that you will ultimately want anyway.

If you are Canadian you only need the criminal code definition. I can tell you that Snider Enfields...Martini Henrys...Mauser 1871's...any flintlock, old or new... do not require registration and do not require a PAL to buy or have. Hopefully the Conservatives will live up to their promises and scrap the registry which will help all lawful firearms owners?
