I have played a good deal with coating bullets and bores, and I am well aware of how much cooler a barrel stays, especially a magnum such as a 300 win mag. Does anyone actually know if the barrel lasts any longer? if so, How much longer?

Barrel wear is really throat erosion. I have worn out many barrels ( about 40 of them) and in each case it is the first few inches of the rifling that gets burned out.

Blue barrel steel gradualy erodes away, leaving a smoothbore section that gets longer and longer.

A stainless barrel looks like itis not eroding to the naked eye. the rifling is still there. but it is cracking. The cracks get more numerous and deeper until a piece of steel flakes off and the group opens to hat-size.

The erosion is related to the flame temperature and the quantity of burning powder being blasted down the barrel.

To answer your question, I have not any seen any scientific evidense that it reduces barrel wear, but I am satisfied that it reduces the need for frequent cleaning. I moly most of my match bullets.
