Hello all,

Just ordered one of these with the wooden furniture. Was able to source a regular wood stock for it also and pretty excited for it. My questions are, does anybody own one? How do you like it? I've only fired 20 guage bird shot at clays but is the recoil with slugs much less than in 12 guage? I'm just learning with this caliber. Any info helps, thanks!

i have a 14 inch barreled 12 guage mossberg and i like it just fine. it recoils more than a similar remington but it is because it is lighter. recoil in any gun is lessened by the weight of the gun, as in more weight less recoil.the ammunition has a direct effect . the heavier the load or the faster it goes ups the recoil and vice versa.i have fired slugs from a light twenty guage and found it unpleasant. have also fired 3.5 inch slugs from a heavy ten guage and it recoiled less than a twelve.there are recoil charts on the internet that do the calculations if you type in gun weight and load, velocity etc. i know of a few experienced deer hunters who use twenty guage as they prefer it over twelve. hope you enjoy the gun and you will find a load that suits your purpose if you experiment.

Thanks farmer47, I haven't been this excited for a firearm in a really long time. Something about the 20 guage that has always had my attention but never picked one up til now. Maybe it's age but am leaning more towards wanting wood furniture also. Now it's about finding the right slugs as this will become more of a camp tool.

I do not and have not owned the shockwave in 20ga, however I do have a 510 and a Remington 870 in 20ga. It is my experience that the 20ga slugs kick harder than their 12ga counterparts since the guns are lighter.

What you ordered/how you're setting it up (proper stock, not a silly grip :) ) is exactly how I imagined I'd like the same gun, in 20ga. In fact, I was trying to talk my brother into exactly the same thing too, as he's after his first shotgun...and isn't sure about the recoil of a 12. (Range toy for him)

He's a smaller guy, comes up to about my shoulder. lol

Anyhow, I hope you'll post some photos of the gun when you have it together!

Oh..and the question.. Right or wrong, I've always felt that 20ga slugs through 20ga guns "FEEL" like 12ga slugs through 12ga guns. Talking pump-guns in my case. IN both cases, the first few shots sting...then my right shoulder is numb enough that honestly...subsequent shots are no problem at all. lol

20 gauge slugs can be quite stout in the recoil department. That combined with the lighter weight makes them recoil just as much as a 12 gauge
I usually run low recoil slugs in a 12 gauge and would likely be looking for an equivalent in 20 gauge.

The trick with the Shockwaves and Tac-14s is to shoot low recoil ammo.

I have a Shockwave in 20ga, I am very happy with it. I left the stock as is at least for now. Recoil is manageable I tried everything from 7.5 to 3inch mag buckshot rounds. The magnum shells you will notice the extra recoil but is manageable if you have a good hold. The lighter loads are fairly easy and really fun to shoot! Enjoy!
