Does anyone here have a Restricted FN CAL?

I know this is a long shot (the gun does exist though, at least according to the FRT). If so, please PM me. I need some pics of the trigger group.

I don't want to speak out my ass, but my guess is if there is a CAL manufactured FN registered as a restricted, it's an error, not an exception.

Happy to be wrong.

Well, in this case you may very well be!:p JK!

He may be referring the FN rifle that has CAL as its model designation. Not one manufactured by Canadian Arsenals.

The CAL isn't a named or unnamed variant of a prohibited firearm, so if a semi-only one was made, it would be either Restricted or Non-restricted, based on barrel length. I found a restricted FRT number when I searched the FRT database, so I'm operating under the assumption that it is not in error (which might be a rash assumption ;)).

Correct, the model CAL in 5.56 NATO/.223 Remington. It was never very popular as it was expensive to produce, and was overshadowed by the cheaper to produce and newer FNC.

OK, is someone just making threads to pi$$ us off now that the LGR is gone?

Ummm.... no. I'm looking for pics of the trigger group to see if it would be easier to make a reproduction of the original semi-only design, or to make a new pattern lower that would attach to an improved upper. I'm doing this because I'm *considering* trying to build an "improved" CAL, but want to get a better idea of what I'd be attempting before trying it. I have a few other projects that I'd want to complete first, but thought I'd start this one now.

If the CAL could be brought to Canada, I would buy one. Provided it was not extremely expensive of course, but I expect it to be pricey.

I wonder if FN could be persuaded into producing a new, Non-restricted version of the CAL that takes AR mags. I assume this would take standard FAL furniture?

I'm pretty sure it takes proprietary furniture, but I see no reason why you couldn't slightly redesign where the stock and pistol grip attach so that it accepts standard AR furniture, assuming a new production model.

It would not be too hard.

But, I would not want AR furniture, I would want original FAL/L1A1 furniture.
