Ironwood Designs: San Jose, CA

Ironwood Designs is currently working on wood furniture sets for VZ58’s. I e-mailed the owner a month ago and he said they will soon be posted on their website. They just moved to a new building and are reorganizing, so it may take awhile to get these parts available but I believe we will see them soon.

Yes, they do ship to anywhere in the world.

“International shipping:
We ship anywhere in the world.
Before placing an international order, please
check with your customs office, to make sure firearms related part are cleared for shipping.
Please e-mail for shipping quote.”

Their furniture is costly, but well made. I would expect a full set-up to cost at least $130 plus shipping. They offer many wood types though, including walnut, I think. I have not owned their products yet, but they are highly regarded on many forums.

They also do custom work upon request. AK regular handguard sets are $85 and under. They may be able to make a cool Russian-type bulged handguard set that fits on a VZ58 for you. I don’t know if their custom work crosses types like this, but you could ask. It seems feasible that they could cut the interior first to fit a VZ58 and then trim the outside with a bulged grip. But first they need to set up for VZ58 set production and then a custom set would require lots of time to produce.

Definitely worth getting real wood for your 858. I recently bought an 858 on the exchange that already had wood and I think it is a huge improvement from the plastic-y composite that was on there. The seller said it was a early VZ58 stock that came from a VZ58 armourer's box.

I have to admit that I am curious about getting real wood furniture, but I really don't mind the original stock. It is light, and I hate to add extra weight to the rifle because my AKM is over a pound heavier than my VZ58 and it's quite noticeable. Still, it's fun to try new accessories. It is my understanding that the Czechs originally issued the rifle with real wood furniture, but the upper handguards split from heat, so they came up with wood chip ones. They still issue the rifle to some troops, but now with black plastic furniture. So in essence, real wood furniture is 'retro', and therefor cool. A real wood stock and lower handguard, with an aluminum Neit Arms upper handguard might be the best of both worlds.

Nice guys thanks for the feed back, osageorange i will take a look at the website. Steve you are correct with the wood being from the orginal surplus vz 58. Take a look at this website, its american but they show that rifle w w w.czechpoint-usa.com. F$%k shoulda bought one like this.
more help from anyone else would still be appreciated.

Here's a different kind of aftermarket stock I just saw on gunbroker.com. He does not ship internationally though. It is two inches longer than a regular stock and has a really different outline. I wish he had one photo of it actually on the rifle so we could see the angle of drop. (Those of you with Photoshop can figure it out.) I just thought I would include it for reference. Sounds like this guy is just getting started making these. I suppose you could always contact him to see if he would ship one farther north.

Similiar to this yes, but no top rail on upper handguard. I love iron sights on battle rifles. But that is one nice looking 858!!!!!!!!!!
