Just wondering how you all like your new M70 rifles. I am kicking at the can to get one but haven't had the chance to hold one. Are they accurate??? How tough does the action feel? I hear the wood is really nice on the Super Grades. Any regrets on getting one? What are the pros and cons?

I just bought a new to me "Super Shadow" in 7WSM with only 5 rounds thru the bbl.
I'm not exactly sure d.o.m.?
It's very light, handles nice and overall feels nice in the hands. My only complaint is the 'blind' magazine. Like I mentioned, I have no idea how new this rifle is?
I'd definately buy another.....'cept different caliber!

well,...you're responses are 0 for 2.....a Classic and a push feed....

I assume you're asking about the "new" Model 70 made by FN in South Carolina?

I've handled them and they are very nice. Fit and finish is excellent. The action is smooth and tight. They safety works very positively unlike some older Model 70's I've owned and handled. The trigger is OK, but there was nothing wrong with the old trigger either,..it was good from 1936,...then it wasn't?...come on.

There was another thread on this just a few days ago....maybe you can find it.

Well in that case, I did handle what I am assuming was a 2010 Model 70 Ultimate Shadow at a gun store in St. Paul Ab, It felt pretty darn close to exactly like my Super Shadow 'cept chambered in 300WSM.
I do like the oval dot grip pattern they have on the syn stocks, an improvement over their Black Shadow version IMO. As for feed type it was controlled feed as compared to my Super Shadow's CRPF (Controlled Round Push Feed).
My next M70 if ever would be wood..really nice wood..with really nice grain.

I have an 06 fw from the FN factory(CR feed). It has made it to my "never sell list" which is more than I can say about most I buy. The trigger as stated may not be the absolute best, but mine has no noticeable creep or over travel and is much better than a lot I've had. The action is smooth yet solid, the wood is exceptional for a $700ish rifle, and the bluing is I would say not high high end but nice enough. Accuracy is plenty fine for it's purpose, and although I never hunted with it this year the one shot I took with it last year put a decent 3X4 whitey to the ground. It feeds anything I have tried effortlessly, but groups open up a quite a bit with the cheap blue box federals. It will consistently shoot 1.25-1.75" groups with factory winchester silver tips(maybe a bit better, but I never bought it to compete with my much higher priced paper punchers) and I'm sure there are guys here that have mixed up a lot better loads. All and all I like it ten times as much as the old m70(1979 built) I had. I am currently considering re-glassing it to be my absolute go to gun. I put a 4-16X44 on it and would like to have something that is a bit lower profile with a quicker sight acquisition. They are well worth a look IMO. I will admit it here(only because I know he won't read it) that my buddy's Savage does group better off the bench, but I love the feel of my winny way more. A classic hunter.

I've got a new Featherweight 270. Fit and finish are very nice. Had it out once, put the scope on at the bench and fired a few to zero it. As expected the 150 Speer boattails didn't do too well. I use them for barrel breakin and case forming. 2 groups both about 1 1/2 " then fired one with the 150 TSX, 3/4". No develpement or anything just dropped in 56 grs. of Rel. 22 and fired. Looks pretty good so far.

I've got two. A 2008 limited edition featherweight .280 and a sporter .270. They're both very well made and finished. Personally I think they're one of the better values out there in a wood stocked low-mid priced rifle.

I wish they made a supergrade featherweight with nice wood, steel crossbolt, inlaid swivels and a mountain rifle profile stock.

New M70

Finally received this 2010 M70 Super Grade .338WM. Was to late for my for my november trip to Alberta, but will be ready for the 2011 season. I havent had chance to get to the range yet but so far I'm quite impressed with quality, fit and finish. Not fusy about the 26" barrel and will likely get cut back to 23 or 24" eventually. Here's some pics as it is now. Scope is VX3 3.5-10x40 Leupold in Dual-Dovetail bases/rings. I like these Super-Grades so much I think I'll buy another in .270WSM to keep this one company.
Cheers

Where did you gets yours Longbranch

Sorry to jump in and add to this exact question. I had been waiting forever for the 2 338 Supergrades that WSS in Calgary had on order. About 3 weeks back they came in and I immediately bought one of them.

Makes a nice set of 3: a Pre-64 338, a 1991 vintage supergrade 338 from the custom gun shop and now the new 2010 338 supergrade. Have not even shot it yet though.

Last I heard, WSS Calgary had the other one in 338 left.

I just picked up the new extreme weather SS in .270 . I have not scoped or fired it yet but in terms of fit and finish it is the nicest gun I have ever owned.

I have 2. A Featherweight Deluxe 2008 in 270 and a Featherweight 2009 in 308.

Both are great rifles that shoots well under MOA with many handloads.

Long term contract in my safe for both... cannot see when I'll get rid of them...
