Does anyone own a Savage Bolt Action synthetic drop mag that has replaced the stock

I haven't been able to get any stock for my gun, nor can I find any info regarding if its even possible for my particular gun. Its a Model 116 Savage Stainless Steel .300 win mag with removable 3 round magazine and synthetic stock with the accutrigger. I want to get a new stock as the savage stock is WAY too spongy up front and a little too light. The gun only weighs 6.75 pounds. I hate the recoil pad. I want a wood or laminate wood stock that will increase the weight some and come with a 1" good recoil pad. (decelerator or similar)
Does anyone have ANY INFO if replacement stocks are made for savage guns with removable mags. All I see are internal box mag stocks for model 110's. I dont see anything for the new 116 stainless drop mag.
The reason I am asking is that my Father borrowed this gun last fall, stood it up too close to the fire, and slightly melted the forearm end. It still shoots straight and all, its just plain ugly and I dont want to replace it with the same crappy stock. Gotta be a replacement made out there somewhere?

None that are drop in made as far as I know and I did a fair bit of looking on the Savage Shooter's site. I replaced mine with a Boyd's laminate target varminter. You just have to do some woodworking and fit the stock made for the blind mag. Mine is the older side button style mag release, but with some time and a sharp chisel, anything is possible.
 
Sgt.Rock go to Stockades web site, all of their rifles can be made to fit the centre feed DM. They are well priced for what you get, and they have a distributer here in Canada that will bring them in for you.

As I stated in your last thread this is the issue we face with Savage rifles. There is yet to be someone to fit a blind mag stock to a DM model but why not be the first?

Old Savage, mine is a detachable box mag savage that I fitted to a blind mag stock. For the side button mag release, you just need to carefully make a new hole to line it up with the release, and trim out the bottom of the stock to clearance the mag body, and depending on the depth of the stock, the lip around the bottom of the mag itself. There are pictures of one done on Savage Shooter's forum. As the blind mag stocks have more wood than you need, its just a matter of fitting to the stock. If by chance internally there is some deficit of wood, you can always build it up with epoxy.

GrizzlyPeg I have seen a few people fit the blind mag stocks to the side release DM, but the system we are talking about in the new bottom release centre feed DM.

I remember reading some info on a posting here regarding Stockades canadian importer but have come up short looking for it on this site. So what I will do is email stockade and find out who it is, or if they will send it to a person here with an import permit.

AND if the paperwork can be easily acquired (with a good amount of time I assume) maybe it is something we can do on a group buy through the site.

sounds cool, I'm eager to find out prices, and how much work I would have to do on my end. I just cant for the life of me figure out why Savage builds such good, clean, reliable, accurate rifle actions and barrels, then puts them in cheap plastic. Its akin to saving up and buying a Corvette and souping it up, then putting walmart specials on four corners. The vehicle is only as good as its foothold whether thats the road or a stock. I'd rather pay an extra 200 bucks when I buy it new, than have to go through this hassle to find a stock. Just something strong and pretty.
 
I am finding it hard to swallow that NO ONE IN THE WORLD can or does make a synthetic stock replacement for the savage long action with a drop mag. I dont want to somehow change this to a blind mag, but am I crazy? This world isn't as big as I thought , if no one makes such a product. What would I do if I cracked my stock on this gun? I had a skidoo accident 4 years ago, and broke a wooden stock on a winchester model 70. Got a replacement stock in a few weeks. What would I do with this Savage? I certainly wouldn't want to replace a shi tty stock with the same shi tty stock. I would want a stronger more accurate stock. I guess I have to put up with the spongy stock and just buy a different maker next time.
 
I think Butler Creek made a cheap synthetic replacement stock for the side button long action Savage. I wouldn't hold out much hope that it was decent at the price it went for. I really have to say that it wasn't until I experience the poor material and fit of the Savage synthetic stock that I realized a synthetic stock could actually be inferior to wood. I thought getting away from wood's moisture changed dimensional instability and easy marring finish was the be all and end all of stocks. Little did I know that such a poor quality job could be done with a factory synthetic. It seems to me the magnum rifles can pound out the recoil lug area and shift around the action in the stock enough that you need mega clearance at the barrel to keep contact away. With the popularity of the Savages, you'd think Bell and Carlson, Choate or someone that can make a glass reinforced synthetic would offer one for the Savage. End of rant.
