Does anyone recognize this part...a peep sight base?

All I have is this slide/base. It was dovetailed into the rear bridge of a commercial Oberndorf Mauser Model B sporting rifle.

It has a spring-loaded checkered push button on one side that releases a catch on the inside of the slide on the other side.

It is approx. 1 inch long, 5/8 in. wide and 1/4 in. tall.

I have never seen one like it and would like to find or make the sight that belongs in it. If it is a base for sight.

Looks really well made!! I have a Mauser 98 that have 2 dovetails on the barrel one regular one where the rear sight is mounted in and one just behind it that is larger…. My point is who knows what was done with those guns and the parts!! Still look like a nice piece? Any marking on it?

Posted the same pictures on Gunboards and it was identified:

"That is the base (only) to an early Remington Model 30 rear peep sight.
They mounted on top the rear recv'r ring in a dovetail.
1920's era sight.

Missing is a slide with aperture that slides in the rails in the slanted top of the base you have.
Pushing the small lockbutton on the side unlocks the slide and allows you to move the aperture slide back and forth for elevation on the inclined base surface..
Releasing the button locks the slide in place.
About a $200 sight if complete. Even that base is worth probably around $75 to $100 these days.

I can't seem to locate a nice pic of one. All Mr Google wants to show is the later Lyman 48 sight that was furnished on the Model 30.

Here is an auction link (long past expired) that shows 2 Model 30's. The top rifle is equipted with the early sight.
Just a long dist.ance picture but you can at least see it on the rifle.

Remington just called the sight the 'Remington Model 30 Rear Peep (aperture) Sight' AFAIK."
