Does contacting the CFC make them slow down even more?

I sent in my PAL application early August and it appeared in the system on August 10. I contacted them and made sure nothing was missing and they assured me everything was ok. According to them, my application is in the final phase of background checks at the BC CFO.

My Dad sent in his PAL a week after me. He received his PAL in the mail about two weeks ago!

We both have clean backgrounds with not even a speeding ticket, so I'm not sure what's holding my application up. The only difference I can think of is he didn't contact them at all and I check the website everyday and have called them maybe 5-6 times in the last 2 months.

Do they track how often you check online and how much you call? Do they deliberately slow down the approval process if you seem too eager?

I was just excited about getting back into shooting, but all this waiting has got me bummed out!

I used to check my status online on a near-hourly basis, and call in to the CFP twice a week when I was waiting for my PAL. Only took me 42 days to receive it in my hands. So no, I don't think that calling them has anything to do with them slowing down your application. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why some applications take longer than others, lots of people send in applications in the same envelope and they are issued/received weeks apart.

I got mine in 40 days. My wifes was in the same envelope, same everything - exactly 100 days today and still no RPAL We did call a few weeks back, and it's the usual Bull SH**

Calling them interfered with productivity. Stop calling and let them get back to work. I also heard that when you call, you can disrupt their thought processes requiring them to attend retraining programs. You definately caused them to lose track and they needed to start all over again...

But seriously, they may be having trouble reaching one of your references or a delay in the bacground check. They also may not process in the exact order that the applications are received which is why your dad got his first.

Yah, I guess it makes sense. Nothing I can do about it just keep on waiting. Thanks for the insights though, Chuck.

The problem is the CFO has your application now, so calling the CFC does very little. In general though, calling can only speed things up if something were wrong with your application like missing info or a reference that couldn't be reached. If you call they can tell you the problem now rather than waiting for a letter in the mail.

I try and get the BCCFO and my calls gets forwarded elsewhere.

One time when I tried getting the BC office it went to Alberta and they said everything looked good and my PAL should be issued within 48 hours (that was three weeks ago!)

The last two times I've tried getting through to BC my call is forwarded to the CFC and they say everything is fine and I just need to wait.

It's hard to know what to do here!
