Discontinued model and no longer on Mossberg's website. Was looking through my boxes and found the label for my 500 Roadblocker... is it a heavy walled barrel? The functional muzzle brake works well and the terrible PG is long gone, Raptor grip is much better.

Have you tried to measure the outside diameter of each to compare them? Do they look visably simlar in thickness?

The box indicates so but maybe a message to Mossberg would be in order?

Don't have a micrometer and the heat shield covers a lot of the barrel. From the sections that I see, they look very similar in thickness. I should contact Mossberg and see what the deal is. Figured you guys would know immediately by looking at it.

It is considered a heavy bbl
the breakage is not that heavy, it's mim so while it looks big its weights like its aluminum
met the company that made it for Mossberg at Shot show , they are from India and make lots of mim parts and plastic stocks for Mossberg
ill see if i can find there website again
they have one classic photo on the website where they have ' made in USA' stamped right into the part.....

So you are saying it's a "Heavy Walled Barrel" that isn't as heavy as the 590A1's barrel... what's the company's name? Could it be the same material and weight, just made overseas for cheaper manufacturing costs?

I believe the muzzle brake unscrews, will normal chokes/brakes/breachers fit for the 500 or 590?

The muzzle brake is pinned in place. I bought one a few years back when I was still new to firearms. I did research to find out how to remove it, just to come across many people damaging their barrels. It seems the simplest answer was cutting it off, which may put you below 18.5".

Good to know. Wasn't going to remove it, just wondered. Maybe the whole barrel and brake combo was farmed out for Mossberg. It's pretty cool and goes bang every time, with minimal recoil - so no complaints from me.

Would a 'standoff/breacher/brake' like this be threaded/pinned/welded???

So fugly the Road-blocker is bound to end up a collectors item...much like Mossberg's 464SPX tactical lever-action rifle.
I would suggest preserving it in all its hideousness ;-) Get one of those chainsaw grip Mossberg's too!

^ Yes, it's probably worth more than your most prized possession

Ugly and impractical but fun as hell. It's not for sale.

It's easy to remove the brake. Just use a towel and vice grips to back off the lock nut (if you don't have patience to make a tool to grip it in the holes). Then the brake screws off and you have a threaded barrel that is still legal length.

Then install a proper stock and have the barrel reamed and threaded for Remchokes and you've got a useful shooter.

That's exactly what we did with a friends 'rolling thunder' that he got a good deal on. The goofy brake went right in the scrap recycling bin!

You are exactly right! I don't know who said it was 'pinned' as you can see the threads and lock nut (I didn't look closely)... anyone know if Mossberg chokes or other attachments would fit on that particular thread size?

Oh, don't take it personally, it's not a comment on your taste. Embrace its fugliness, like a Nissan Juke. Someday, their fugliness will make
them rare & desirable. Ian on Forgotten Weapons recently suggested that gun investors buy the Chiappa Triple Threat because it was so fugly it was bound to be a future collectors item. I honestly can't pick a "most prized possession", after all, I can't take any of them with me when I go, so why bother having a "most prized".
