Does Savage test-fire their rifles?

I just got my Mk II BTVS, and it looks like it's been shot. The interior of the receiver is a bit dirty, and the underside of the bolt, as seen in the pictures, looks dirty. I suppose it could just be metal shavings from production mixed with oil, but that doesn't say much for their QC... I'm just hoping that this wasn't something that someone bought, shot and returned.

That said, the stock is REALLY comfortable. I'm waiting for my rings to come in so I can mount the scope. I think I'm going to really like this rifle :)

Also, is dry-firing these ok? I want to fiddle with the accutrigger but I'm afraid of peening the firing pin or chamber face...

IIRC Savage does test fire their rifles before shipping them. I would avoid dry firing your Mark II without using snap caps. If you have some fired .22 brass you could use that as a cheap snap cap and just hand feed it into the chamber.

Good looking .22 by the way.

Savage tests all firearms to see if they function and cycle properly. I personally would question a clean rifle. A lot of the manufacturers go as far as including the target the gun shot during testing.

All the firearms out of the US are shot (twice) and the keep the cases in a little bag with serial number...

Wouldnt dry fire it, not so much the ding from the pin but the rises next to it, when chamber a round, the rises can act like a firing pin.

Beautiful rifle, I ended up with a T/C R55 (which am very happy with) as already had a bolt CZ452. Your is a very nice rifle and may end up owning one at some point. Please let us know how it shoots.
