Does slamming slide on empty CZ damage it permanently?

Frankly, I think that saying there is so little difference between letting the slide close on an empty chamber versus with a cartridge as to make no difference is wrong. Do it both ways and just use your ears. There's a reason why everybody refers to it "slamming" on an empty chamber. There is a big difference between the two IMO. I hate the sound of a slide slamming on an empty chamber!

man, imagine what would happen if you fired bullets through it? how much damage does that do? letting the slide slam back apon firing and contacting the frame? after 50000 rnds through my cz75 i've only had to fix an extractor. use common sense, it's not abuse it's training.

I used to do it all the time (except when handling someone else's pistol) - I then hung out for a bit at 1911forums and learned about "not letting the slide fall on an empty chamber".

I then came to the conclusion that it's neither here or there for all the reasons posted above... sometimes I ride the slide on an empty chamber, sometimes I don't :)

:agree: Do it all you want on your "own" guns. However to do it to someone else's gun is very poor range manners.

Yes, but when you fire bullets the slide does not impact on an empty chamber.:)

Have to agree there, I hate that empty chamber clank sound and if you can't feel the difference between that and when you chamber a round out of the magazine there is something wrong with you. Just my 2 cents worth.:D

It IS rude to do it, but it is also TRAINED in most modern pistol classes (and I mean real defensive classes, not IPSC) to build muscle memory for high stress events (like gunfights).

I hate 1911's, personally, so have no idea if they are more prone to break than combat tupperware, but I guess Harley Davidsons do tend to run rougher than Hondas... Your mileage may vary.

I totally agree that if some 'tard were to just willy-nilly slam any of my guns around, I would taken them away, and never let them play again. As previously mentioned, it is all about respect.

I am pretty sure though, that if you've let your pistol slam closed on an empty chamber once or twice, it will NOT fall apart, as there is NO WAY your puny little arms are generating anywhere near the energies that live ammunition is exerting on your bits and pieces, when they slam back and forth.

My opinion, for what it may be worth, based on only 17 and a half years of carrying a pistol at work, and shooting recreationally whenever I can.

Cheers,

Neal

So have we gained a concensus yet?

I was told that my old Ruger Mark I should not be slammed onto an empty chamber to avoid 'peening' the bolt face onto the chamber face. Any truth to this?

I tend to agree that it is good manners to handle a firearm with the care that you would afford your own. If you treat your own less than lovingly, well I guess it would be prudent to ask others how they would like their firearms handled before pawing them.

no, only the "240 MPa, 35,000 PSI" of pressure on the slide recoiling into the cam and the frame vs the 20ish pounds (depending on the recoil main spring)
returning the pistol to battery. firing thousands of rounds through your gun will do more "damage" (wear and tear) than any number of times you rack your slide on an empty chamber. That's why people spend hundreds hours (yuck) in front of the mirror training with a quarter in the mag. plus it's cheaper. :)

However, out of personal politeness and respect i would never drop a slide on an empty chamber of someone elses pistol. Nor dry fire (I WILL NOT do that with my own) cause that DOES cause unneccessary stress in places there shouldn't be.

OMG my berreta 92fs barrel just split like a banana and the slide cracked i guess i shouldnt have slet it slam home all those times.....

oh its was only a dream sorry...my bad.

It's a centerfire and it's a CZ, duh, you can PERMANENTLY damage it only if you slam it 10+ times :D ... joking... it's not the one you have to baby, it's a gun and the one meant to be fired, dry-fired, slide-slammed, dropped, fired again and again.

Put it this way.. how much is the weight of a round? how much does it actualy slow down the slide when the you chamber a round..

Now compare the difference in energy the slide has when a is being pushed and without.. NOT MUCH difference.... you probably have more energy in closing a slide, when it bounces back from recoil (and catches a round) then if you close it with no round by hand..

I call B.S. ;)

I call BS too. Firing a round has to be ten times worse than slamming a slide on an empty chamber. Oh NOES! Dont fire your guns, it damages them!
