Does the P-99 Suck?

if you like tiny plastic guns i say go all nutz over it
personally i hate it.. being that the handle is small and my hands are to big, and that trigger.... dont even get me started on the trigger...

but for the people that i do know that own it as their first gun they love it
 
Some like them and some sell them right after bought it home. TSE Red Leg mentioned they have lot of P99 Range gun failure and cracked. If I have to go for a plastic gun, I will take a Glock or XD 9. They were proved to make every owner happy.

I usually don’t have much to say in these discussions, but I have to share my experience with the Walther P99. I have owned a P99 in 9mm for about 6 months, which I bought off of another CGN, and I have been pleasantly surprised by it. It fits my hands better than just about anything I have tried, (Sig, Beretta, Glock, 1911) and it will digest any ammo I have fed it. Overall it is a very pleasant shooting gun and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another. If you can find a member of a local range that has one, ask them to shoot it and I am sure that you will be pleasantly surprised. If you are ever in Northern Alberta send me a PM and I’ll let you try mine. If it fits your hand (which with the adjustable back straps shouldn’t be a problem) I say buy it and you shouldn’t have any problems with it. I have heard rumors that they are unreliable and don’t like many varieties of ammunition, however this has not been my experience at all. Overall, it has been a very reliable firearm, and a pleasure to shoot.

I was at the range on friday, and there was a guy with a .40 P99, Mini-14, and 308 bolt rifle in the stall next to me. The kind gentleman let me run a box through his Walther. (Even after I managed to jam up his bolt gun something fierce... :redface: )

I must say I didn't find the AS trigger as wierd as I thought I would, and with the medium backstrap the gun fit in my hands better than a Glock 17. I'm gonna have to seriously look at it as my next pistol, but I've got a ways to go learning to shoot what I've got first.
 
Shoot it before you buy it. Some people love the P99 but I can't stand the trigger. It just feels wrong to me. You definetly should shoot the gun before you buy it, regardless of how it feels in your hand.

X2. I liked the feel of the gun well enough but fell seriously out of love when I fired one.
 
So poor trigger but no mechanical problems to report ie chucking brass in the face a la P22 or easily broken parts? I loved the feel of the P22, so I imagine I would equally like the P99.

I also see the notations of P99 and P99QA, I thought all P99's had the quick action trigger or am I mistaken.
 
All of our range guns suffered from broken ejectors almost immediately, however the gun often continued to function. It is part of a complete assembly and fairly costly to replace. We also suffered broken slides and barrels at intervals that I thought we shorter than reasonable. The rear sight was very susepable to damage and accidental movement.
They are popular guns, but in my opinion they are suitable for light use only and over priced for what you get.
