Does the VZ58/CZ858 and the AK fire the same round?

yah they are the same

half the people at gun shops dont know what they are talking about

I noticed that on Czech battle packs they have diffrent caliber designation. It might confuse some people.
7.62x39 was not forced on any Warsaw Pact country, they could opt out if they wanted but as it was with NATO with their american 7.62x51 and 5.56x45 it was better for all to use the same round. Easier supply

Are you sure? The Czech's were using the 7.62x45 I think it was and changed to 7.62x39. I thought I read somewhere that they were mandated that change.

None of the Warsaw Pact nations ever called it "7.62x39". They called it "7.62 M43." Which makes sense, given the 7.62 - 43 marking on the Czech ammo, no?

To Saskcop,

Ammo and many other things was not forced by the Soviet Union, it was individual chooice of each state. There is alot of sources that say czechoslovakia was force to change the caliber but most of this sources are Based on "Radio Free Europe" Propaganda that had as it purpuse spreading discontent in the eastern block. It is comperable to France withdrawing from NATO structure in the 70's plus never adopting 7.62x51. This thing was used by Eastern Block propaganda to show that The French are leaning towords us. France was seen by many Eastern Block nations as an exemple friendly to be admired nation not the Evil like West Germany US or UK
