This beauty popped up on my Instagram a little while ago and I thought it looked a bit off but still strangely more beautiful than normal, does this look like it's shorter than a regular mk3? I noticed it's missing the wood ears from the top handguard that hug the rear sight. I thought this might be a good way to save a bubba but then realize the wood work involved would actually be fairly difficult, it might not even be a shorty maybe just the way the photo was taken what do you think?
 
Looks fine to me. The rear, top handguard ears seem to be trimmed a bit as well as the front ones that have been completely cut off. Nice looking rifle! I love the No. 1 and how it balances right in front of the magazine at the rear, top handguard when you carry it! My favourite bolt action milsurp!
 
Hand guard has had something done to it. Possibly a fix after a bit broke off.
Stock looks like it's been refinished oddly too. Like dark stain then a lighter stain. Neither is insurmountable to fix though. Assuming you can find a new rear hand guard.
And you're seeing an optical illusion for the length. Picture was taken from the front and at an angle likely to get the whole thing in.
 
The removal of the legs on the rear handguard was an official modification....
They just broke anyhow, so they were removed........officially.
 
Length looks correct to me, as does what we can see of the rear handguard. Ears have been removed from the front handguard which, as mentioned, was a relatively common arsenal modification. It has an early cocking piece and trigger guard. When was it made?

could be a shorty, but very well done if it is. hopefully just camera angle. have seen one or two with the "legs" cut off. it is my favourite as well. nothing else looks like it.
