So I hoping to have a Brittany pup by this coming spring and I am looking for training books. I just ordered The Training and Care of the Versatile Hunting Dog by Winterhelt and Bailey from amazon. Has anyone read or used this book? Any other recommendations for pointer training books?

Get the NAVHDA(North American Versitile Hunting Dog Association) training Manual. I trained my Viszla with it and it worked out quite well. Next year I'll be using it again when I get my Deutsch Drahtaar.

There's a defunct club, the American Hunting Dog Club (ahdc.org), that went through considerable effort to publish a manual for their members. It is still available and is an excellent reference. The owner of vom Meadowlakes kennel put me onto it.

I will likely be getting a vom Willowrock drahthaar early next year.

I purchased the Perfect Start/ Perfect Finish DVD's and they are amazing training videos for pointers. All the dogs video'd have zero training and you really see detailed progression. They arent cheap at about $130 US but really worth it if you want to train yourself.
I havent read that book but the more you read the better.

Cheers!!
