Fellow gunnutz,

I have a seriously undertrained hunting dog. My dilemma is that I'd much prefer spending time at my cabin on weekends over committing weekends to training events. Nothing against the local NAVHDA chapter (They're all great people training great dogs), but I work all week and there are only so many weekends each summer.

It's just that I'm a bit selfish. I enjoy my weekends at the cabin more than I enjoy participating at training events. Consequently, I came up with the idea of inviting other people with undertrained hunting dogs to my cabin for training. That way I have the best of both worlds. I get to spend every weekend at the cabin and the dog still gets worked.

I'd like to invite 2 or 3 other undertrained dogs and their owners to come spend the day (or weekend) at my place to work the dogs. In other words, I have a three year old Pudelpointer looking for friends.

I have 124 acres on a private lake. The land is mostly mature hardwoods but there is a small field (5 acres), a cleared but rough area (11 acres), and a smaller clearing (2 acres) where the dogs can run birds. I also have a couple of small off-grid cabins at the end of a 2 km rough road (No tenting required).

So, If your're within a short drive of Brudenell (2 hours west of Ottawa) and looking for a pupper play date, send me a PM. Preference given to drama free peeps, who like campfires, shooting ####, and drinking whiskey.

I know next weekend is kind of last minute but it is realistically the last weekend before black fly season....Anyone interested is encouraged to send me a PM.

Cheers,
GJG

Woodcock and partridge are nesting or about to. We flushed a half dozen ruffed grouse last weekend while out shed hunting. I could hear them drumming all weekend. So it seams that they survived the brutal winter!

For training I have access to quails and pigeons (chuckars and pheasants are still too young).

If I weren't so dang busy this time of year, I'd love to pack up the pooch and come out your way. Maybe another time. I don't think my retriever mutt is welcome at NAVHDA, lol.

Good idea! I'm doing something like that with a bunch of friends and their dogs at my place this weekend. A good way to have a visit, train the dogs, and enjoy the countryside.

thanks, I've been hosting dog training days for about thirty years now. and by the way I also hunt with Pudelpointers. I think you made a good choice!

My Chukar source dried up. Does anyone here know of anybody selling chukars in Eastern Ontario?

On a good note I have received my Authority to train dogs and conduct field trial and my Authority to release wild game from the MNR so I'm legal to train with guns over dogs all summer long.

Cheers,
GJG
