This is probably in the wrong area but its the closest area I could think of posting this.

I live in northern Alberta and am planning to get a dog in the coming months. The breeds I'm looking at are fairly active breeds and require to be constantly challenged (cane corso, Belgium malinois, German shepherd). Outside of standard obedience training, I was thinking search and rescue, tracking training or even Personal protection training.

I've used google to find trainers in the area that promote the standard obedience training, but nothing in regards to the S&R, tracking or personal protection... Are there any suggestions for learning material (books, Dvd's) that can walk a person through training above basic tricks and obedience? Even better would be a trainer I can work with?

Thanks in advance

I have never looked into this personally, but the people who train police dogs might do it.

Edit: http://www.albertadogs.com/training.htm

I was curious so I found this. I'm pretty sure the police dog academy in Alberta isn't open to the public.

For personal protection work check out a Shutzhund club in your area (ht tp://www.albertaschutzhund.com/) , there will probably be members in your area who will be glad to help. I highly recommend you work with someone experienced in this area as it is easy to ruin a dog and not all dogs are suitable for such training.
