Dogleg Junior started his deer hunting career on Friday, using my Knight MK85/6X FX111 with 3 Pyrodex pellets and the250 grain Hornady SST. Three shots got him one WT doe, one MD doe and a coyote. Not a bad first day, but he's been practiceing for 9 years. Next step, bucks!

Shot distances were 60 and 75 on the deer, nearly 200 on the 'yote.

Good shooting.this is just a start to the adiction of deer hunting.I love the smiles in the pictures,I never understood why in so many hunting pictures people always look pissed off.I think in any picture I have from hunting I am smiling.if you don't find hunting fun why do it and if you arn't happy with your trophy why shoot it?just my opinion.

nice gun btw

Impala,
I've had good luck with that Knight, but will probably have to give it to my son now. He's picked my pocket for a Weatherby MarkV .257 and Leupold scope and 870 Remington already this summer, so is on a bit of a roll. It's mostly my own fault though, since I started him on rimfire when he was 3.

martinbns,
If Caleb can show me straight "A"s he can have a kudu as a graduation present. If he can't, he can try to get his own butt to Africa.

Caleb has now moved onto centerfire in his hunting career, packing a Mark V Synthetic in .257 Weatherby with a Leupold 4.5-14 x 40 LR and handloaded 100 grain TSX bullets. The rig proved adequite for his 70 yard shot. ;) :50cal:

Well, the hunt continues whenever we can get the boy out of school for a day. Today was just a quick evening thing, giving Caleb a shot at last light. He used his .257 Weatherby again with 100 grain Ballistic Tips this time.(Instead of the TSX) You wanna see a deer get deflated instantly try one one of these at 3700 fps. Reminds me of using soft bullets in my STW.
A weird thing about this deer, I had the guts out of this guy so fast that the heart was still beating. I've had hands inside a few hundred animals, and this was the first time I ever held a beating heart in my hands. We both held it in fact! This was like something you would expect in a second rate horror movie, though there was nothing scary about it. Quite the opposite in fact, it was more fasinating than anything. Makes me wonder if I gutted a live deer?
Anyway, here's the pic. Sorry about the darkness.
