The Dollar hit $.80 for a bit today and is rising above levels it was at last July, so I Am hoping the price of ammo and firearms will decrease back to the levels they were last year as quickly as they raised them!

Well that's the thing, since most of them raised prices even on their old stock,, I only buy on sales and where I find the prices were not put up outrageously, most CTC raised their Chinese x39 to around $340 ish, the Dartmouth store kept their old stock at $289. That's where I tell all my friends to buy! Lots of sales lately on line for ammo, I think many people are doing the same thing!

Even if we were at par again, dealers will have to turn over their stock before we see a drop in price, if we ever do.

^ yeah... everyone has to turn their stock over which takes 6+ months, plus the dollar went to $.80... not $.90... that is where it really needs to go and more importantly stay for months for the prices to drop. If the dollar goes to $.90 and stays there for 6 months then we will see prices decrease slightly across the board. Don't hold your breath. You should only ever buy sales IMO.

Yup was up…so I ran down to the local exchange house to pick up some more USD to throw into my US bank account…trying to dollar cost average into a half decent rate. This way when I find a nice deal on gun broker or make my next trip to the US to buy ammo I will have the USD and not be subjected to the applicable FX rate at that point. Just another way to avoid the inflated cost that retailers use to blame on the current economic environment.

ammo and guns are the same, they all tell us it costs more but the price never drops when the $ goes up near par. a while back I put a comment on about the high cost of guns and dealers not lowering prices when the dollar is high and had my posting removed and received a note from a mod regarding my post. free speech????????

For months there has been a number on this site complaining how vendors have been "blending their prices" as the dollar has been falling through the floor.

All the crying at how "unfair it is" that they are charging "higher prices" on stuff they "bought at par" - take them out and hang them in the public square.

Now the dollar moves a little in the other direction.

Now many of the same that "don't believe in blending prices when the buck is falling" suddenly believe that "blending prices should be written into the constitution".

You are NOT going to see any kind of immediate effect to the price of the buck moving up or down - it just don't work like that with anything "firearms". All the 2016 orders were placed back in December. The importer/wholesalers have been getting stock as it has been shipped from the US - and whatever "they paid" when it crossed the border will be the prevailing rate for the 1) the rest of the year or 2) the price until the next bulk order comes across the border.

Yes, be aware of where the buck is - but that will tell you more about where the price will be "in 3 to 6 months on stock that regularly turns-over", if stuff was "bought up front" you are stuck with that price "if you want it" - still a free market and you don't have to buy anything at all....

***free speech*** According to the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, "Free Speech" is an "American Concept" that is not protected or guaranteed by the Charter in Canada - so you don't have any :)

I wonder if now is a good time to buy from the states or if I should wait to see if the dollar keeps rising
I need to order some magazines from savage arms

Looks like a lot of folks here don't mind uncalled for high prices, they sure didn't take 6 months to go up! I will take the ammo/ powder that is on sale till the prices drop to last summers rates. That's why we keep enough to last us through the tougher times!
The reports are that our dollar should stabilize around the $.80 mark +or - a bit!

Wow is it time for the Saturday "dealer gouging" thread already?
First of all, BS. We still have inventory in stock that was priced at a 90 cent dollar last year because we have not yet received more at a higher $.
Secondly, you do realize that just because the $ is up yesterday does not mean we change our prices that day right? I mean you actually know that we have already paid for what we have on the shelves, and we will not see any savings on new purchases until they are paid for, right?
Yes you as a consumer can certainly take advantage of a spot rate change and buy something in $US right now and save some money. Dealers are not afforded this luxury.

Dealers that export directly, aka Irunguns or Prophet will do good as the savings are changing everyday, we can benefit from those, i am following a pistol on Irunguns that cost 80.00 less than around Hollidays times... Story to follow... JP.

I did not say anything that wasn't true, and wasn't gouging the good dealers on this site, I buy from those who did not raise their prices overnight and if you are one of them good on ya! But there are some that did raise them and I will boycott those few who did! No need to get defensive, most members here know who did or didn't and buy accordingly!
I buy most of mine from Canam as they put on good sales. And offer shipping basically included in the price! They let us know that prices were going up which gave us a chance to stock up. Even then, their higher prices turned out to be less that anticipated! Awesome group to deal with, as are most of the dealers on CGN!

This little bump in the dollar will be benefit some people in some situations. The large retailers, as already mentioned, will need to move through their inventories and such. Businesses with a an already low inventory or that are about to pay for for a shipment might benefit. As far as us little guys, buying direct from the u.s.a. (which generally already has lower prices) can offer some savings, but it depends ...... I'm looking at some over priced stocks in Canada, but shipping from the USA eats up the savings even with the better pricing. Day shoppers in the USA will benefit most, but I always find it confusing as to what is actually allowed to be exported out of the USA.

Based on oil and other resource supply/demand I wouldn't count on seeing the dollar stabilize just yet. We've still got 3 billion barrels sitting at sea and an oil price war that could kick off hard again.

I actually keep BNN on around 14 hours a day when I'm at home following the markets and from my experience it seems like they don't expect our currency to stabilize for a while yet. They also expect great things for our housing bubble that is rapidly getting ready to burst in many places. If it lets go any time soon we could see a lot more than oil workers out of work here.

Bought my last rifle from the US with US$ that I got when $ was near par, sweet. Eggs in CAN and US basket, time to spend all the par US$.

Haha, yes I don't watch it quite that much maybe 8 hours or so but my take on most of the reports was that it would settle around $.80 and that was about fair value for what it's worth, either way I am hoping we will get a reprieve, if only from the companies that didn't stock up too much when the dollar was down and can buy in now! I will be sticking with the deals and sellers that keep their pencil sharp!

Yup, at the moment I'm hoping our dollar does not climb too high..
Our products need to be cheap to sell.

I just realized that I exaggerated a bit because I don't pay attention to the repeats. It's nice to see that other people on CGN watch it regularly too :)
