I bought half a box of Dominion 303 KKSP 180 grain from a neighbor. Several questions.
1)Are these filled with cordite? When was cordite replaced? I assume these are from late 50s early 60s.
2) Some of the tips are somewhat deformed...should these be trimmed (hunting only) or dressed back to good points?
3) Oilproof primers??? wazzat?

These are modern smokeless factory loaded cartridges. They never had cordite in them. The tips don't need trimming or truing.
They will be smurfy to shoot as is, and will perform as well as a newly produced round.

Oil proof simply meant a good seal of the primer, such that light contact with oil in an oiled stored gun wouldn't ruin the primer.

Good ammo. Even though the trend tide has turned to umpteen fancy new chamberings and cartridges, there is nothing wrong with Dominion ammo. I creamed a few whitetails with Dominion ammo in .303 British, 8mm Mauser, and 30-30. I have a a half-butted collection of that stuff in various chamberings.

Yup, we never appreciated CIL and Dominion when it was available. Years later many of us have come to appreciate it for the quality product that it was. Kling Kor Soft Point and Sabre Tip were very much ahead of their time.

I have some Dominion 270 ammo of similar vintage.

That 303 ammo was the stuff my dad bought when i was a kid. When I started hunting with my own rifle in 1968 the brand had changed name was still Dominion but in 1969 it changed to Imperial. I remember it was a big shock to see "Imperial" boxes with their glossy cardboard finish compared to the flattish colour on the Dominion boxes.

still have many boxes of 303 Brit 150.180 and 215.
Lot of bullets and cases for hand loading as well.
Shot lots of moose nd deer with them over the years in different rifles, and I had my custom but hunter chambered in .303 Brit.:)
