I'm guessing this stuff can be kept in cool/dry for a long time but does anyone have more of an idea?

Keep it dry and it will literally outlive you. Shooting 50 and 60 year old ammo is not uncommon if you can save it that long. Moisture is death to ammo, though. Constant temperature is important since temperature variations lead to condensation.

Have you got great grand-kids yet? Well, as long as you don't get the stuff wet, their great grand-kids will be able to shoot it.

Get some ammo cans and stick it in the attic for your beneficiaries to find, it will go bang as long as you can keep it dry
