Dominion Arms backpacker cocking issue/complete disassembly?

I've been having a couple issues with my backpacker, one of which involves the chamber needing a polish (no biggie) and a strange issue where the hammer can't be cocked if the receiver is anywhere pointed even slightly down. It has to be precisely horizontal or pointed up to #### the hammer.

So I figure I should pull it apart and give it a real good cleaning, maybe something flopping around in there because of the packing oil. But...how do I disassemble it while still being able to put it back together? It's all pins, and since I don't think it's based on some other design, there's nothing to google.

Has anyone taken the mechanisms on these apart? Should I just be using brake cleaner to get in there rather than actually going in myself?

And has anyone had the cocking issue?
 
The receiver on the DA Backpacker looks very similar to the H&R Pardner also sold as the NEF Pardner. That's where I'd start looking.

I had an over-under shotgun that had this (silly) safety feature built in.

You could not pull the trigger with the shotgun pointed below horizontal.

The idea being that a shotgun would always be used to shoot upwards at clays or birds.
And if it was pointing downward when firing, it would only be because of an accidental discharge into your foot.

I took the gun apart and removed the "safety" mechanism. It was a pendulum that swung to block the trigger when the gun was pointed downward.

I can't imagine somebody trying to use a gun like that to save their life, and the gun won't fire.
Like let's say a bad-guy is coming up the basement stairs, or a bear is charging at you up a hill.

It'll fire from any position, but won't #### from beyond just a bit below horizontal. Easily overcome, but annoying nonetheless, and I'm just not sure if it's intended.
 
I just checked my backpacker and it can be cocked from any position, it sounds like somethings not right. as far as taking the receiver apart im not sure how hard it would be. might be best to contact Canada ammo and see what they can do for you.

Since it's a brand new gun; You're doing the right thing by following up with Canada Ammo.
 
CanAm will take care of you. I got one of the backpackers that fell apart when you shot it. Sent an email and had a shipping label the same day.
