I have a Dominion Arms Marine pump shotgun, with a short 14" barrel. It should be a 4+1 capacity (2 3/4") but for some reason I can only get ONE shell in the magazine. When I try and put another shell in, it only pushes in about 3/4 of the way. What could possibly be happening inside the tubular magazine to only allow one shell to go in??

So i unscrewed the magazine cap and there was a black plastic stopper at the end still. I used a screwdriver and removed the black plastic piece and low and behold underneath that a long plastic pencil shaped piece about 8" long pulled out the end. I can now load 4 shells in the magazine. Was this 8" long piece just put in at the factory for shipping purposes? I bought this gun as used and am surprised it was in there.

Problem solved. It had a 8" long plastic stopper in the end of the tubular magazine. Probably put in at the factory for shipping I assume. Anyways I removed the stopper and it will now hold 4 (2 3/4) shells. I bought this shotgun as "used" but maybe it was never shot (until today lol)

Sounds like someone plugged it to be legal for hunting. Might have come from the factory that way, all my shotguns with tube mags came with one but they're all longer barrels with chokes.

Its a short barrel 14" shotgun. I'm surprised that anyone would even use it for hunting. But if they plugged it to be legal, I could only get ONE shell in the tubular magazine. You would think they would allow more then just ONE shell in the magazine to be legal?

I can think of a few answers.

1) the guy who did it didn't do a good job.
2) it's a factory part, but intended/designed for magazines that hold 5 rounds not 4.

You could always trim it shorter if you wanted/needed a plug.

Lots of hunting gets done with 12.5” and 14” barrels, I shoot lots of small game with short barrel shotguns.
